Research Project on John Marriott

This is John E Marriott, and he is the photographer I have chosen to do a research assignment on.

John has many pictures but here are a few that really caught my eye:

Reflections of fall colours in a Yukon pond, northern Canada

Lower Bevin Lake in fall colours, Muskwa Kechika Wilderness, Northern Rockies, BC, Canada

Grasslands National Park, Saskatchewan, Canada

Lush rainforest patterns in Anna Inlet, Queen Charlotte Islands, BC, Canada

Vermilion Lakes and the Sundance Range, Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada

Vermilion Lakes and the Sundance Range, Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada

Mt Rundle and Sulphur Mountain Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada

In 1992, John was hired by Parks Canada in Banff National Park to go out and photos of people, wildlife, and scenics in the mountain environment, and from there on, John's photography career has officially started. In the late 90's, John spent several years taking pictures of bears in the backdoor parks in Canada. John was never really trained to become a photographer but he learned what he has learned along the journey of becoming a professional photographer. John now sells stock photography and his images have been published in numbers of magazines including National Geographic AdventureBackpackerCanadian Geographic, Reader's Digest, Outdoor Photography Canada, Photolife, Ranger Rickand OWL. John's first book, Central Rockies Mammals, was published in July 1997 and is now a Canadian bestseller along with 2 other books of his that have gotten Canadians bestsellers such as his book, Banff & Lake Louise: Images of Banff National Park, which was released in 2007 and his other book, and, The Canadian Rockies: Banff, Jasper & Beyond, which was released in 2009. John has accomplished many things but one of his biggest accomplishments was when he started his wildlife touring company in 2010, which was called Canadian Wildlife Photography Tours. John has lead 4 tours in 2010, aswell as 8 tours in 2011 and 9 tours in 2012!
John has a degree in Bachelor of Science in Forestry, Parks and Wildlife (1994) - University of British Columbia (Vancouver) and University of California - Berkeley (San Franscisco). All of the lenses that John use's are Canon EOS 500 f4 IS, Canon EOS 70-200 f2.8 IS, Sigma 120-300mm f2.8 OS, Canon EOS 17-40mm f4, but the camera that he use's is a Canon EOS 5D Mk III camera bodies.

Review:

John's work is really amazing and really catches the attention of the people who are looking at his photography. He used very interesting angles and his pictures have the perfect settings and lighting to them, his pictures really are one of a kind. What really caught my eye about his work was that the majority of his work has been taken here in British Columbia and Alberta. Canada has amazing landscapes and has lots of colour and he definitely shows that in his pictures.

My John Marriott Inspired Pictures!

I took these photos by the pond near my school. What I did for lots of the pictures was bring the camera as close to the water as I could without actually touching the water and then adjusting the shutter speed and the focus so it looked like the water was running for a long time before you actually saw the land. The only things I really adjusted in Photoshop was the contrast and the levels too bring out the green colours a bit more!
